The information technology (IT) job market has gone from a seller's to a buyer's market. From the late 1990s until early spring 2001 graduating IT students received numerous job offers with high salaries and bonuses. Today few job offers are made and salaries are now up to 10% less than two to three years ago. The dot-com implosion and economic downturn along with offshore outsourcing of IT jobs has led to this situation. Colleges and universities need to examine their IT curriculum to ensure that students are being properly prepared for current and future job trends.
