The National Science Foundation has funding opportunities for undergraduate computer science and information systems faculty through a variety of programs. These include teacher enhancement, faculty development, curriculum development, instructional materials development, evaluation of new pedagogical approaches, advanced technological education at the community college level, and scholarship programs for students. In this presentation, a NSF program officer will give an overview of the programs within the Division of Undergraduate Education and provide examples of successful projects as well as suggestions for successful grant writing. The presentation will be in seminar format with opportunities for interaction with the participants. It will start with a presentation of the topics including analysis of recent trends and problem areas faced by proposal writers. After the presentation there will be time for brainstorming ideas with other attendees and the NSF program officer. The National Science Foundation Division of Undergraduate Education has many programs designed to provide funds to help faculty enhance undergraduate computer science education and further the discipline. In addition, the Foundation already supports many projects which can be exemplary models for curricular revision and new program development. Faculty members need to be aware of these opportunities and be able to select programs that are appropriate for their needs and project. They need to benefit from the experience of others who have been successful grant writers and who have navigated the federal funding process. This presentation will provide information on programs and procedures as well as suggestions for grant writing to the attendees. The hope is that these professors will then participate in the initiatives and share their results with the community at large, particularly at future meetings of the same group.
