Abstract
The fields of data science, data analytics, machine learning, and artificial intelligence have seen exponential growth in both industry and education over the last decade. As the disciplines has evolved, what was once considered very black-and-white subject matter has revealed many shades of grey. Data has emerged as a new language. Its applications through analytics and AI have far-reaching potential to serve humanity. However, its potential dangers are just as numerous, and a liberal-arts approach empowers both practitioners and students alike to responsibly exercise this great power. This paper examines data analytics through the lens of Foucault's discourse, making the case for data science as the newest discipline in the humanities.
