When Students Meet AI: The Role of AI Tools in Enhancing Analytical Thinking in IS Case Studies

Abstract
For this experience, students were instructed to employ AI tools to analyze a case study. This was an old case study used in the course in previous semesters that is relatively straightforward in both comprehension and solution discovery. The students utilized a range of AI platforms and subsequently presented their findings and reflections during class. The assignment required students to provide a summary of the case, identify the main character, and apply a structured case analysis method to diagnose the problem, decision, or evaluative within the case. One group was explicitly tasked with leveraging AI in their analysis, while the remaining groups completed the assignment without the aid of AI. This was the ninth case study during the semester, by which point students had developed considerable proficiency in the analytical methodology employed.
