Part 1: Teaching with AI: Practical Classroom Strategies for Information Systems Educators
This interactive workshop explores practical, classroom-tested approaches for teaching with generative AI. The session focuses on how instructors can meaningfully incorporate AI tools into information systems and other courses to support student learning, engagement, skill development, and career readiness.
This workshop is designed as the first part of a two-part conversation. Part 1 emphasizes classroom practice: what instructors are trying, what is working, what remains difficult, and how students are responding. Part 2 extends the discussion to ethics, governance, research, publishing, and responsible AI use across academic work.
This will be a community-driven discussion rather than a traditional panel, allowing conference participants to learn from one another and compare emerging practices across courses, programs, and institutions.
The facilitators invite conference attendees to share their own strategies, activities, assignments, challenges, and successes related to teaching with AI. The facilitators will guide the discussion and keep it focused on instructional innovations that enhance student learning while helping students use AI tools productively and thoughtfully.
Each facilitator will introduce a topic or teaching area, share an example from their own teaching, and then invite participants to join the discussion. Topics may include AI-assisted tutoring, guided prompting, vibe coding, AI-supported data analysis, assessment in the age of AI, assignment redesign, student reflection on AI use, classroom demonstrations, and ways to help students move from casual AI use to more intentional and effective use. Format: Introduction and comments from the moderators followed by open discussion with attendees. Guided discussion will be used to keep the conversation focused and productive.
Outcomes: Participants will gain practical ideas for using AI in their teaching, examples of classroom activities and assignments that can be adapted for their own courses, insights into how peers are incorporating AI tools into instruction, and strategies for helping students use AI as a partner for learning rather than as a shortcut around learning.
Targeted Attendees
Instructors who are experimenting with or interested in integrating AI tools into information systems or other courses. No prior experience with AI is necessary.
