Objectives
Are you looking to save time and resources when structuring a course in your LMS? As instructors, we are typically subject-matter experts rather than User Interface (UI) designers, so expecting us to create content and incorporate suitable UI elements isn’t realistic. Some universities have adopted templates to enhance content findability and consistency for students while reducing time investment for instructors, but templates limit instructors’ creativity and autonomy. We believe Generative AI offers a solution to reduce or eliminate this trade-off. This workshop demonstrates how to use Gen AI to lower the barrier to coding in LMS systems by using natural language. Instructors can generate HTML code with Gen AI to balance UI design and creativity while sustaining or improving student engagement and findability. We will provide instructors with an easy-to-follow brief demonstration of how to leverage Gen AI to create visually appealing courses to improve student engagement without sacrificing time and effort. Then, we’ll ask the audience to evaluate their own course to identify where they can apply the same techniques; presenters will offer guidance on how to add instructor creativity and how to implement Gen AI output in the LMS. All participants will go home with a presenter-created guide for further implementation.
Targeted Attendees
This workshop is for any faculty member interested in a new way of structuring courses in their own LMS system, making it easier for students to find content and enhancing the perceived quality of the course. No prior experience with coding or Gen AI is necessary.
