Integrating Notion AI into a Student-run Venture for Knowledge Transfer

Abstract
Research was published in 2020 regarding the creation and operation of an IT student-run venture at a small private university in the Midwest (Podeschi). Student-run ventures are owned and governed by the university, can be profit-motivated or socially focused, and can be either co-curricular or integrated into a for-credit course (Morris, Kuratko, & Cornwall, 2013). Student-run ventures allow students to gain experience of working “in a business” and “on a business” simultaneously. They are a learning laboratory for students to practice entrepreneurship through opportunity recognition and marshaling resources while experiencing real risk and reward. Moreover, student-run ventures allow for students from across different disciplines to engage, thereby mimicking a real-world work environment. This student-run venture has been in operation for 10 years with web site design and hosting for local and regional organizations as their primary line of business.
Over the past year, students have migrated 10 years’ worth of client files and documentation from Google Drive to Notion. Notion is a platform that allows for wiki spaces, document uploads, collaboration, and project management (Notion, 2025). The purpose of the abstract is to demonstrate how educators can use a platform, Notion, for collaboration, knowledge management, and integration of AI (artificial intelligence) features into student projects, courses, or organizations. Students have learned the importance of documentation, document management, and business continuity because of this project. Information Systems (IS) and computing educators can use insights from this to develop or enhance their own student curricular and co-curricular experiences at their home institutions.
