Abstract
Preparing students for the workforce requires effective communication, confidence in interviews, and the ability to present oneself professionally. In the School of Computer Science and Information Systems, the Professional Development course is designed to prepare students with career-readiness skills. As part of the curriculum, students develop resumes, participate in mock interviews with industry professionals, and attend career networking events. One challenge has been adequately preparing students for the intensity and unpredictability of the mock interview. Feedback from professionals has been that students lack the basic skills or knowledge to know how to prepare for these interviews. Students have also struggled with the soft skills necessary to approach and engage with professionals at career networking events. To address this, we have integrated a virtual AI-powered software tool that simulates real-time interview experiences and engagement practice. This software allows students to upload their resume and choose between standard and technical interview formats, offering tailored practice sessions that adapt dynamically based on the student's responses. In addition to interview simulations, the platform includes an interactive module for practicing elevator pitches, a key component of developing soft skills. This session will explore how incorporating AI technology into the course has enhanced student preparedness and confidence for these situations. We will share implementation strategies and key takeaways from career preparation activities. Attendees will gain insight into how virtual tools can help bridge the gap between academic preparation and real-world expectations in the job market.
